Our children and families can be healthy and healing. I work with birth parents, adoptive parents, and foster parents to help their children and teens have the best life possible. I have a heart for foster and adoptive children and teens. I particularly enjoy identity development, and launching into adulthood.

Forming a family through adoption is different. Not better nor worse and certainly not second best, just different. There are unique developmental stages for adoptive families.

 

Being a parent can be overwhelming, especially with adopted children who have experienced trauma. I am here to let you know that you can get through the unique challenges and be better for it. I currently offer three therapy groups, in addition to individual therapy.  Please take a moment to read about them below!

     

Circle of Security

 

Are you a parent who wants to strengthen your relationship with your child/teen? Are you interested in learning new ways to understand your child/teen's needs and behavior? At times, have you been afraid that it is "too late?" You are invited to register for Circle of Security classes. Classes are eight weeks. Offered Quarterly, please call for more information and to register. Cost is for the 8 week session.

 

Beneath the Mask

 

Our adopted teen group for high school youth addresses the six major hurdles for adopted teens. It decreases isolation and reinforces the universality of adoption. Our adopted teens have busy lives. Peers seem to be more important than parents. They appear to have accepted their adoption and don't ask much about their birth families. However, they have a lot going on "beneath the mask." Please call for more information. The group is a 12 week commitment held twice yearly. Parent group runs concurrently. May be covered by your insurance plan.

 

Adoption Book Club
